Yes, exactly that. I am currently on an artists residency. Which is something I never thought would happen, or perhaps not directly out of Uni.
Artist Residencies, for those that don't know, are usually places that Artists can go to and use to make work. Mine is slightly different in the fact that it is at a School. Most residencies are not in schools, but I think that where I am is almost perfect for me, as I can use this school, which has amazing facilities and copious amounts of space to my advantage and really get stuck in and create some massive pieces, which is something I have wanted to do for a while.
Granted I have only been on this residency for nearly 3 weeks, but I have thoroughly enjoyed every second so far. There have been moments of slight confusion as I had gotten lost or I mistakenly interrupted meetings, everything else that has happened has been incredible, with some amazing opportunities arriving at my feet during these three weeks.
It has been a wild experience and I have crawled home each day and sort of willing for more time to completed concepts and my own project ideas. What I can say about where I am is that I have been given a lot of creative control, which is by far the best part. So far I have started one of many murals and been asked to create set designs for the upcoming production starting in January. I have been asked to help out with some photography work and start to draw up a rather large installation. Honestly, it's a dream job as I am getting to try out a plethora of things that I have wanted to for years but have been unable to for whatever reason.
Many good things to come!
